What does a Nanny do? FAQS

What will my Nanny do?

Your Nanny will carry out all ‘traditional nanny duties’ this means all aspects of the child/ren’s needs. From nutrition, to laundry, socialising to nurture. A full time Nanny can easily achieve these duties. With a part time Nanny, Ellie will happily help you identify the things you feel are priorities.

What won’t a Nanny do?

Nanny duties have traditionally not included cleaning or whole family laundry. We advise a regular cleaner for this. Occasionally, a Nanny will offer to launder family items with children’s laundry. The Nanny will always tidy and clean after herself, but as a ‘rule of thumb’ you can expect to find your home not far off how you left it.

So you employ the Nanny. Does that mean we don’t have to have insurance or do any of the tax?

Correct. We do everything to do with employee rights; Annual Leave, any Sick Leave, pension, HMRC, contracts, support. Everything is handled by Ellie and the payroll Assistant. From when your Nanny starts, we charge an hourly rate with VAT added at the prevailing rate (currently 20%). At your visit, you’ll be asked about mileage for when your Nanny transports your children. We can either invoice this or you pay your Nanny. Most families include this in the invoice.

Are there any other costs?

No.

What do your invoice charges cover?

They cover the long and shortlisting, Phone interviews, face to face interviews, referencing and verification, contract and negotiation, legal processes like health check and any considerations, induction and any training, and ongoing support. The legal requirements of supervisions and reviews are also done by us. Also, as above, we pay your Nanny all Annual Leave, and Sick Leave, all contractual pay, tax etc.

When does invoicing start?

It starts at the beginning of the month following your Nanny’s start date.

What happens next?

After the initial enquiry or phone call, Ellie will email over lots of information, and once you’re happy, Ellie will come out to see you in your home. During the visit, the finer details are discussed. Ellie will help you define the role you wish to give your Nanny to make sure nothing is missing, and all your needs are met.

How soon can you find a Nanny?

Generally, we say it is 4-5 weeks from the time we advertise. If Nannies have a DBS, and the availability, some placements can happen faster. Placement happens once the Family Agreement is signed.
